From
Being Cyrus to Finding Homi !
Seriously it’s not
about Finding Fanny. . .it’s about finding him… Finding Homi Adajania!
This droll, laid-
back, scuba –diver, talented, Director... who I so much admired, not so much for
his guts to make an English film with a main stream stylish actor, Saif in the lead (way back in 2005) but for
his sheer art of story –telling on celluloid, without wasting valuable screen
time.(83 minutes)
Being Cyrus. released
first in a film festival Nov 2005. later released in India in March 2006 and we in India know well, what to expect from a movie that has made rounds to
film fest abroad… but it was not only just a welcome change but a well appreciated movie
and has gone into becoming a cult.
This pic of Homi
Adajania
tells you what a chilled -out guy he must be and why he decidedly didn't
make more movies after Being Cyrus, until of course the commercial bug bit him
and he was drawn to make a Cocktail (2012) literally!
It’s not that I didn't
like the movie but only if its credit rolls didn't have----- Directed by Homi Adajania.
For the simple reason, it was like any other rom-com being churned out from the
big banners with zero risk, 100 % romance, 100% comedy, dash of drama,
heartbreak, sacrifice, friendship and of course super hit sound track. (Which
Being Cyrus was completely devoid of.)
I had read somewhere in an article, just
around the time of its release, that Homi actually had to be brought back and
cajoled into making Cocktail … It was evident!!!
In finding
commercial success we probably lost him and so did, maybe I presume, he lost
himself!
But… finally when
the posters of Finding Fanny appeared…
I said… Alas the man is up from his grave. I eagerly waited for the YouTube trailer and God!
I knew, this time for
sure … through Ferdi, Angie, Pedro, Rosie and Savio …. it is Homi
who was trying to find himself.
Though Ferdi finds
Fanny or not, let it be a mystery for viewers who haven't watched it yet and I am
sure half the sub-continent has already made good use of the week-end unless
they didn’t want to shake up their butiyas....
This Talented,
Entertaining, Scuba diver, cult director has found himself . . . Back.
With the Shake your butiya for publicity, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, at their usual best and Deepika and Arjun raw with Talent ... this time around Homi has got his cocktail just right.
For the movie … go
find something for yourself in it … if not love…
Make sure you know you are
watching the English or the Hindi version of it.
